Stage Fright and a Sense of Order

Beyond the mere fact of having been busy, and the discovery that I like writing for paying markets (okay, I knew that, but I haven’t been doing it for a while), there have been other things that have deterred me from posting, and especially from posting on Buddhist topics: stage fright and a sense (perhaps even an obsessive sense) of order. Having done the Four Great Truths, what should I do next? Dependent Origination? And if so, should I do it by dragging out the pool game analogy once more? It’s a really great analogy, but am I going once too often to that particular well? Have I even got a right to say “it’s a really great analogy”?

Or maybe I should do the Eightfold Path next. Can I do the Eightfold Path without doing the Precepts? Maybe I should do the Precepts first. But how can I explain the Precepts without explaining the Eightfold Path?

You can see where this is heading.

So this is another announcement of policy: I’m not doing things in order. There are really two big themes I’m working out in this blog (and maybe more as time goes on) but right now I’m still working them out. So, maybe someday in the future I’ll lay out an order in which some group of topics are to be read, but right now, I’m just writing what pleases me to write at the time.

I’m writing this without the “help” of the WordPress visual editor. I’m finding the visual editor very frustrating: I do something creative with it (like right-aligning an attribution on a quote) and it will happily accept it, show the right thing on preview, and then rewrite my code so my creative thing goes away.

This paragraph, for example, ought to be right-aligned.
