Bush Blind

In an otherwise fine rant about the elevation of Caroline Kennedy to the Senate on the strength of her family connections, Steve Chapman drops this graf…

For most of his life, George W. Bush was famous mostly for his meager accomplishments. But because his father was president, he was able to get himself elected governor of Texas and then president as well.

I realize it’s de rigeur to claim that Bush did nothing, was nothing, but Gods, children, try to keep some self-respect.  George W was managing general parter in the Texas Rangers for five years, and made about $15 million of his own money out of it.  He ran for Governor against Ann Richards, and whupped her, was a successful Governor for four years, then won re-election 7-3 and was the first Governor of Texas to serve to consecutive terms.

Like him or don’, but for Gods’ sakes get the facts right.

[Update: Duh, forgot to link Steve's piece.]

I really do have to wonder how people like Ann Richards and Tony Knowles must feel about the way their political “allies” devalue them in devaluing the Republicans who defeated them.

It’s sort of the general issue with Bush, don’t you think? He’s an idiot — but a conniving Machiavellian idiot who manages to get what he wants, defeating the smarties who make light of him, over and over again.

I think it goes beyond Bush. I think it’s about the rather odd moral code of that ilk. For most people the only sin is hypocrisy — you can be a mass murderer as long as you don’t go around claiming mass murder is wrong.

For Democrat officeholders there’s an additional sin: that of losing an election to someone who doesn’t orate all purty like Senator Palpatine.
