Calling the Tune

  • If you want to understand the behavior of a person or group, look for what rewards that behavior. You will invariably find something, but i may be something unexpected.
  • If you want to encourage a behavior in a person or group, find a way to reward it.
  • If you want to discourage a behavior, decide what behavior you’d like in its place, and reward that.

    I wonder how this could be applied to such shenanigans as the teen beating that is all over the news right now?

    That’s a good question. The thing is, that kind of beating of the “outsider” was going on long ago — and I had the broken teeth and hospital visit to prove it — so one thing I wonder is if there are really more of them happening, or is it just that cheap video cameras and YouTube has made it much more visible?
